Our biobank was set up in 2009 in the context of the National Cancer Plan Initiative (Action 27). The biobank is located at the Institute of Pathology and Genetics (IPG) which is accredited with ISO 15189.
Our biobank is a large multi-center collection facility, collecting human body materials and associated data from patients/donors of our main hospital (GHDC-Charleroi) and other hospitals in Wallonia.
Our biobank is notified by the FAMPH (AFMPS/FAGG) under the notification number B190020 and ISO 9001:2015 certified. We follow a rigorous quality management system and standardized operation procedures to maintain the highest quality standard in the storage and management of human biological materials and associated data.
The aims and objectives of the biobank, in accordance with current national regulations, are to collect, store and distribute human biological materials and associated data following strict standard operating procedures to support the scientific research that meets the scientific and ethical requirements in accordance with Belgian legislation.
The human biological materials are either collected specifically for a specific study (with informed consent approved by ethics committee) or consist of residual human biological materials from diagnostic analysis (according to the Belgian law of 19th December 2008).
Each new research project must be submitted to an ethics committee for approval. After submitting the sample request to the biobank, the scientific committee will review the validity of the request before granting access to human body materials and associated data. Researchers are required to sign a Material and Data Transfer Agreement.
